Hannah Ild

Hannah Ild (1981) -birth name Hanna Pruuli- is the most international singer, pianist and songwriter from Estonia. Since she began her career with thirteen years now, the career of Hannah is very varied and mixing different musical styles.

I must confess and say it makes me sad that I have known Hannah for the last artists in Estonia. The only logic I can find on this ground must be due to the internationality of the artist and their albums are often released outside of Estonia, for example in the UK. I apologize but I do not recognize that the best album of techno-pop music of Estonia “Fly Away” is from 2003 and perhaps to join me to pop in Estonia much later, the Hannah’s albums there are no discs in stores in Estonia and she was more in international markets.

Winner of the first music competition for children in 1995 and after her great qualities were demonstrated in the piano, in 1997 began her solo career. The fame that came quickly and was second in 1997 at the “Eurolaul” the national phase of Estonia for Eurovision with her song  “Üksik hing” (Lonely Soul). The very soft song had a nice accompaniment of very poetical and interesting violin.

Two years later Hannah returned to prove luck in the Eurolaul 1999. In this occasion together with Jakko Maltis they interpreted the song “Mu hääl “. This time stayed in ninth position. Two song, evidently were composed by her.

Her debut album “Salaja” in 2001 was an outstanding success. The first song of album “Salaja” -secretly- can be seen up to now most successful song in Estonian pop music. The album won five awards this year among which included the best female artist of the year. She continued her success with many ballads on his second album “Ballaadid” where all songs were composer, produced, performed and piano accompanied by Hannah. In this album incorporates slow versions of some songs from their first album and the third as “Salaja”, “Sinuta”, “Kaugel” or the super hit “Siis”.

In 2003 a radical change appears on her album “Fly Away” and I am very grateful because as I said before is the best  Estonian techno dance album, comparable or superior to those of “Nightlight duo” or “Queen of the Night” de Caater feat Trinity. I think the songs “Siis” and “Never be same” as the best in the techno-dance style of my life!. Some of these songs and ballads were out on her second album. In 2004 returns to the ballads and produced and composed “Ballaadid 2” accompanied by a symphonic orchestra. Some of these songs as techno had left on her third album as “Let me show you”. Won in this period the following awards: “Aasta Naisartist 2003” by album “Ballaadid”, “Aasta Album 2005” by album “Ballaadid 2” and “Aasta Naisartist 2005” best female artist of the year.

Hannah’s fifth album is a compilation and it seems to us to understand that the first phase in Estonia is almost over and the international break will be immediate. Hannah makes a contract with the British production “Snowdog Records” which is working with them until today. It includes most popular pop and music videos in their promotions, and numerous mixes of their most emblematic songs for famous DJ.

Brief opinion about her following albums:

“Everything is changing” (2007)  which includes the hit and video “I see” and in general is a soft pop album and includes an interesting version of “Let me show me” from the album “Fly Away”. All songs composed by Hannah, Produced & Arranged by James McMillan. A great tour along United Kingdom accompanied by the veteran Australian artist Jason Donovan certified, for if someone still had not seen it clearly, that Hannah is the new queen of the pop European dances.

“Keeping score” (2009) is an album full of mixes of the same song, co-written with and produced by Steve RobsonIn the album “I Believe in You” (2010) also with various mixes of the same song and a nice space video of the song. The single reached high places put in the charts of UK, was the anthem of the British selection of football and sonorous band of a radio station. The whole record of successes!.

In November, 2010 others important events will happen in Hannah’s career. She edits her new single “Sanity” as always accompanied of an awaited video clip and a new album of ballads in Estonian that they invite to the meditation and to the reflection. The album will be so called “Õige tasa – ballaadid”. Hannah’s talent is admirable: she makes us dance with her songs or makes us thrill with others… this only the big artists can do it!.

Hannah has managed to reach unimaginable tops for the music of Estonia. In March 2011 in the prestigious magazine “Billboard” she reachs the TOP 5 in the charts with the song “Sanity” together with big planetary artists like Kylie or Britney Spears. We attach the corresponding charts of this week of March, 2011

Hannah’s last project has appeared in april, 2011. Now under the name of “HMC” (Hannah and Miami Calling)  have thrown the powerful single “Take over now”. The years Happen and Hannah I work with diverse professionals but the musical level always is very high… It is very difficult to support this!.

My relation with Hannah’s music is slightly special. Already I said that she was of the last artists that I knew… and examined her career and seeing her current songs I see that it is an extraordinary case in the music of Estonia. I observe that Hannah like artist escapes of the intention with which I began this modest channel of spreading of Estonian music. Who am I for to do that the people know Hannah for the world? She is the queen of dance!!… but as most of the music of my channel it is from Estonia… she has to appear for being the number 1.

Lyrics

Salaja

Salaja kuulasin su samme siis
salaja jälgisin kui lahkusid
varjud su teel vaid mulle jäid
mu päevad nüüd on tühjust täis
Kuuluda sulle siiski nüüd ma saan
Loodan veel et jääksid salaja sa
sinu samme pean ootama tuulisel teel
tuled siia veel, tuled siia veel
Salaja soovisin et siia jääd
salaja proovisin sul hoida käest
on soojust täis su külmad peod
see saladus meid nüüd seob
Kuuluda sulle siiski nüüd ma saan
Loodan veel et jääksid salaja sa
sinu samme pean ootama tuulisel teel
tuled siia veel, tuled siia veel
Pean loobuma, kuigi salaja (salaja)
Loodan veel
Kuuluda sulle siiski nüüd ma saan
Loodan veel et jääksid salaja sa
sinu samme pean ootama tuulisel teel
tuled siia veel, tuled siia veel

Never be same

There was something wrong
With you and me
And life we lived before that day
You just came into my life
When I was week
Needed someone to stay
Now my life never be same
There is no one to blame
My life never be same
Never be same
After while we understood
That nothing ever cant destroy our life
That our feelings were too strong
And only thing we needed
Was little time
Now my life never be same
There is no one to blame
My life never be same
Never be same

Siis

Ma sellel lõppu ei näe
ma justkui aastaid siin istund ja tundub
et mitte ükski ei jää tulemata
On sadu vallutand maa
ja piisku miljoneid ammutab taevas
Ma justkui olla ei saa
mind miski vaevab
Kuid siis kuulen taas Su häält hüüdmas
mind viid kaugustesse kaasa endaga
Ma jälle üksinda jäin
on vaid üks meenutus päevast mis möödund
ei tea kas siin oled käind
Sind pole näinud
Kuid siis kuulen taas Su häält hüüdmas
mind viid kaugustesse kaasa endaga

Fly away

Days passing by
Always near by your side
Sometimes joy sometimes pain
But some things never change
And now when I’m gone
You looking for my love
It’s like the end of my days
And I wish that I could fly away
And now when I’m gone
You looking for my love
I feel like end of my days
And I wish that I could fly away
Nights are cold and dark
Still I miss to be in your arms
Sometimes joy sometimes pain
But some things never change
And now when I’m gone
You looking for my love
It’s like the end of my days
And I wish that I could fly away
And now when I’m gone
You looking for my love
I feel like end of my days
And I wish that I could fly away

I believe in you

There’s a place you know*
There’s a place you once called home
Where you always go
When you look back

You can close your eyes
But do it with the heart wide open
Don’t you just give up now
Cause I still believe in you

You and I gonna break the rules
Let the night take over us
You and I gonna break away
Cause the DJ’s playing our tune

I believe in you
I believe in you
You and I gonna break the rules
And we’re taking over the dance floor

There’s so much you’ve dream about
And the risk you have to take
Like a kiss you’ll never forget
And I know I’ve been there before
And there’s one thing I have learned
You can’t take a road of regret

You and I gonna break the rules
Let the night take over us
You and I gonna break away
Cause the DJ’s playing our tune

I believe in you
I believe in you
You and I gonna break the rules
And we’re taking over the dance floor
